SUSTAINABILITY

We see sustainability as a given, not a marketing tool. We consider three central aspects.

Sustainability of resources

We believe that raw materials should not only come from sustainable sources, but also be sold by partners who share our values of deliberately and constantly increasing our sustainability. Ongoing communication with our partners helps us discover new options, like using alternative packaging materials (PCR, sugar cane, cellulose, etc.).

We see our skilled employees as one of our most important resources. Regular training and continuing education help harmonise individual needs with our corporate strategy. This combination raises awareness on all levels and nurtures a comfortable, motivated work culture. As a company, we also particularly foster gender equality and diversity.

Water is used as a main element in almost every process step in manufacturing, sometimes as an ingredient and sometimes as an operating fluid. Careful and safe handling of this valuable good is key. We procure all our water from a local source of drinking water and treat it in-house in an ultra-modern treatment plant to meet pharmaceutical standards.

Sustainability of processes

The concept of sustainability plays a key role in all our processes, whether we’re dealing with a reduction of the scrap rate through process optimisations, a review of all manufacturing processes for sustainability when it comes to energy use (heating, cooling), or local warehousing solutions to avoid long transport routes, to name just a few examples.

Constant increase in sustainability

We participate in a federal programme in which we have committed ourselves to an annual reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 2%.

Regular audits as part of the ISO 14001 certification also check whether we have achieved our goals and evaluate further potential for improvement.

Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions

We participate in a federal programme (bulk consumer universal target agreement) in which we have committed ourselves to an annual reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 2%. An independent, federally accredited inspection authority monitors target achievement.

Water splitting plant

Not only do we prepare the best water from the local drinking water source to pharmaceutical standard in our water treatment plant, we also return purified water to nature through our splitting plant.

How the splitting plant works

Impurities such as fats are removed from the process waste water. The clean water is returned to the environment. The sludge is professionally disposed of as special waste.

Energy-efficient cooling system

Our cooling system meets the latest energy efficiency standards. In addition, our heat exchanger uses the winter cold to cool systems and we feed excess heat back into circulation.

Appreciation

As our employees are the key to our success, we offer regular continuing education in the Lean Six Sigma method in addition to external training and continuing education options. Collaborations with universities of applied sciences keep our employees up to date and enrich day-to-day work with exciting and innovative projects, for example in digitalisation. All our employees are paid above the legal minimum wage.
